The Goddess of Gumbo is the title of a poetry collection by–and a personal nickname for–Kendra Hamilton, M.F.A. and Ph.D., a writer living in Charlottesville, Virginia. Professionally, I write about the tres sangres of the American South: the three interwoven ancestral lines of American Indians, Africans and Europeans, their histories and stories, their food ways and folk wisdom. That can be pretty heavy–so in this blog I simply try to have fun. I write about my experiments in the garden and with locally raised (and sometimes wild) food. I write about my friends, my church, my community in this small Southern city. I write about my journey. Hope you enjoy the ride.

whoah this blog is excellent i love reading your articles. Keep up the good work! You know, lots of people are looking around for this info, you could aid them greatly.
Dear Melva, it’s awesome to get the positive feedback. And nice to know that you found the information useful. Sometimes you’re writing, writing, writing and it feels like you’re writing to yourself, which is OK too, but better when there’s an audience that likes the sharing! Anyway, I’ve changed my blog design and added another post so you should come check it out again and tell me what you think. I really like the new design. I think It’s simple and clean and uncluttered. But my web design guru friend tells me that it’s all wrong and people aren’t going to scroll down to find my blogroll and other stuff. So now I don’t know what to think. Be nice to have another opinion!

Dear Isobel, it was great getting your feedback. I’ve been blogging–sporadically, I admit–forever, and it was so nice hearing another voice in cyberspace. Anyway, I’ve gone with another blog theme and added another post so you should come check it out again and tell me what you think. I really like the new design.
